Engine Replacement
[SIZE=2][FONT=arial][COLOR=darkblue]
I am faced with the choice of replacing an engine in a 1995 ES300. The car had 140,000 miles on it. The new engine has 50,000 miles on it. How much should I be paying for an auto shop to do this work? I have been quoted $4300 for everything. They are replacing all hoses, motor mounts, belts (including the timing belt), plugs, etc...

splinter,
Who are you having do this? Some dealers around here ( Northern Virgnia will NOT put a used engine in ) Regardless the usual cost for R/R an engine is 12-20 hours, depending on the car. Add in the R/R time for your mounts, belts, plugs etc should not come out to be more then 30 hours @ $70/hr = $2100 plus the cost of engine and additional new parts. I would say since it's a used engine, you can probably get it done for less then $3,500 maybe even $3,000
