Does not matter who owns the car... as long as the original warranty period is valid, then the car is under warranty. The only things that would void a warranty are accident damage or certain modifications... otherwise, you should be fine.
The only time this matters is when A) you own a kia or hyundai, or B) You bought a 2008/2009 Chrysler corp vehicle with a lifetime factory powertrain warranty.
