Hi I am new to Lexus, owned a VW. We have manufacturer specific diagnosis kit for VW. I wonder what the equivalent is in Lexus. I heard about OBD 2, is this a scanner or just code reader? could you reset things using this?

While there is a Lexus branded scanner available, one of the nice things about OBD2, at least here in the US, is that all vehicles have to abide by the same / similar protocols... different scanners have different capabilities... a simple $40 code reader can pull codes and reset the light, while a more complex unit costing 10-100 times more can do much more...

You can always get the code scanned for free at some local auto parts store.

By the way, now you have a Lexus/Toyota, they are far more reliable than VW. The chance of you needing a code reader is very small.....
On my 97 ES300 with more than 230,000 miles, I only have to scan the code once.
On my mom's 97 Corolla with more than 170,000 miles, I only have to scan the code once as well.
