I don't think there is a reasonable substitute for Toyota coolant. One thing I do know, that if you use genuine Toyota, you will likely never have any corrosion or build up at all. Take a look at any radiator that has been running Toyota vs. others, there is a major difference.
If you use genuine Toyota, even after 20+ years the cooling system looks perfectly clean, something I have not seen from using other brands. So if you have to drive 40 miles to get it, it's worth it IMO. And never use only water except for a very short time, use 50/50 up to 60/40 mixed red (or Toyota pink which is premixed) and deionized water. 50/50 is best for climates where you do not get extremely cold temps, it will offer better cooling performance. If it gets very cold where you live, go with 60/40. Any higher than 60% coolant will give you little to no greater freeze protection.
BTW, apparently Honda coolant is very similar to what Toyota uses, but is coloured green for whatever reason.

thanks for the reply. i am changing my radiator tomorrow and i needed a quick aftermarket solution. Going to get some of the zerex Asian for the short period. I ordered the Toyota stuff offline because they charge $30 a jar for the toyo long life here at the toyota dealers.

Here are the Specs for the Zerex Asian Coolant

I'm going to see if I can find the Specs on the Genuine Toyota Pink and Red Coolants so they can be compared
I cant find the specs for the toyota pink coolant, but comparing the ingredients on the bottle of Toyota coolant and the specs from Zerex I'm going to Napa to pick a gallon and read what they claim on the bottle. Honestly I have a damn good feeling that these are going to be the same.

Just go to your local Napa store and get it there. They have the gallon of coolant around $11. Toyota doesn't make any coolant, trust me i work at a battery plant and we have toyota as our customer, the only difference between their battery and a battery that you buy in Walmart is the sticker that we put on them.
