Exclamation Mobil1 SuperSyn???

I just received a offer in the mail from Mobil1 promoting some new oil they have. It's called SuperSyn, fully synthetic, claiming to have anti-wear technology, etc. It then lists the following, 10W-30 higher mileage vehicle formula, 5W-30 newer vehicle formula, 15W-50 performance driving formula, 0W-30 enhanced fuel economy formula and 0W-40 european car formula. Now to me, this seems like some marketing gimmick by Mobil. What makes this better than the old Mobil1 synthetic I have in my car and in the garage? Like to hear the opinions of others on this. Here's the link

Unhappy

I heard rumors that this new formula is not as good as the trisynthetic. The trisynthetic was made with a better more expensive base stock. This might be the reformulated version. I just stocked up on as much 5w-30 and 0w-30 tri as I could. I am good for about 18 months. (3 cars). remember they lost their law suit with castrol I believe or pennzoil because they used a class 3 base stock and called it fully synthetic, whereas mobil did not. Class 3 is cheaper. there is probably some info on the net about this.

Default Mobil 1

Evidences showed that the current M1 Tri-syn (currently on most retail shelves) had been reformulated and is inferior to the previous Tri-syn. Some suggested that Mobil/Exxon used cheaper base stock (nolonger "fully synthetic") in the curent Tri-syn to increase profit. I am hoping that, at best, the new Supersyn is as good as the old Tri-syn.

I am concerned - I think Mobil is putting "sawdust in the sausages" ie, reducing the quality.

As a user of Mobil 1 for 15 years, I'm not happy...

I used to use Amsoil - but it just doesn't have the market presence.

I'm very interested in your comments.

Could you please post some links to the "evidences"?

Thanks

Mobil 1 is/was a highly recommended oil for the KL03 engine (in Mazda MX-6's and Ford Probes). We've a discussion about this for some time now, and then I ran across this thread. Hope this helps.

Best full syn oil on the market is AMSOIL but a pain to find an authorized dealer to get it so I use Mobil 1.

mobil syn is standered in Mercedes, and in almost every race car.The tri syn was an attempt to meet some federal standered. What turned out was the worst mobile syn ever.Still better than any petroliam oil.The new type has replaced the tri syn and is a much better product.

Am interested in your source of information on the tri-synthetic being an attempt to meet a standard and additionally the source that the new product is far better.
I am not doubting or quibbling, but would like to be convinced by more than opinion.
Thanks

Old Guy. There was much discussion about this on A couple of the Mercedes sites.A lot of data. The best site is called the mercedes shop.Free site.with a very large e mail load.No charge to use it.Just search the archives. The mercedes club site is members only,so you could not access that one.The fact remains that Mercedes puts Mobile one in some or all of there cars.Look at pictures of race cars, most will have a mobile one decal. But what ever kind of name brand oil is fine as long as you change it on a regular basis. Also E mail mobil and ask them about the changes to their oil.
