Default Unlocking problems on 1 door

I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion on why my passenger side rear door will not unlock/ lock on my 98 gs300. It doesnt work remotely or from the drivers door. It is not a big deal but next time I have it at the dealer I am going to have them look at it.

Default the door work manually.

The door will lock/unlock manually from the inside but its like the automatic locking mechanism is broken or its not getting any power or signal to lock or unlock.

I have the same problem with both my front driver and passenger side doors. The driver door works sometimes, but the passenger door will only unlock automatically- it must always be locked manually. Dealership wants $75 just to look at it but said that it is probably the door lock motora @ $289 each. Anybody have any ideas?

Default Update on this problem

Hey guys,

On my first post a few months ago my rear passenger side locking mechanism door quit working, and now my driver front door is doing the same thing. So i took it to Lexus of Louisville and they gave me a price of $280.00 for the part for each door. If they install it they will charge me $125.00 per door. Here are my questions:

1. How hard is it to get the door panels off.
2. Lexus acted like the actuator assembly was a major job to replace. Due to the fact it is just one big piece tied to the lock and both door handles and electrical connections etc. Has anybody tried this?
3. Any other suggestions?
4. Anybody else had this problem? service manger said this problem is pretty common but not possitive it was the actuator.

Thanks for your time,

Andrew

Default door problems

I have removed the door, not a difficult task. The screws are all easy to identify except one, which is behind a little cover behind the inside door handle. All the parts are easy to identify, and all electrical connections are quick disconnects. 30 minute job at the most. Hope this helps

Had this problem with my 95 LS driver door, and it sounds like you're all having similar issues. Your locking actuator is about to die or has already died. A whole new assembly for my car cost $260, but the actuator is far cheaper on the passenger and rear doors. Replacing it yourself isn't difficult, just tedious. Check out prices with your local Toyota dealership(s) or you can always find new parts at decent prices from irontoad.com. Hopes this helps.

If the problem really annoys you, I would recommend that you call up some dealerships and figure out if the actuator of ES250 and second gen Camry share the same serial part #. If they do, try to locate the part online or see if you can get it at a reasonable price from a dealership. Honestly, I lived with a busted actuator on my LS for about a year and it didn't do any damage, but it was just annoying to have to open the driver door by key sometimes.
