Having starter problems?

Having starter problems?
My 1999 GS300 has 200,000 miles. The starter was acting up and would click a couple times before it would start. Well I thought the contacts were worn out and needed to be rotated or replaced because of the high mileage. I was dreading lifting up the car and removing the starter for fear of not being able to repair it and being out of a vehicle to drive. The starter finally wouldn't rotate anymore and would just click. A mechanic stopped and decided to help me. Appparently the problem was loose wire connections on the starter. He moved the wires in a clockwise direction to help tighten them and voila! no more dead starter!!! simply amazing. Its been about a month and the starter has been working just fine. Just thought I would give a suggestion to try.

May I suggest you disconnect the battery ground from the battery; for safety, and retighten the connections with a ratchet and socket.
I prefer the 3/8 inch drive ratchet for starter connections. Might start with a 12mm or 14mm socket size. You'll be tightening the highest current draw point in the auto electrical system, from the plus side of the battery. But there is plastic in the stud mounting, so be careful not too tight on the locking nut.
Loose connections or finger tight connections create high resistance points, electrically. Heat then develops and the connection tends to burn, ark.
With 200,000 miles, the starter motor brushes are probably worn away. You might want to locate a replacement and it's availability... as a standby.
