My 2-Ton Hydraulic Floor Jack is acting up. Anyone know the fix....?
My trusty floor jack has served me well for many years, but is no longer working the same.
It used to lift up evenly with each stroke, but no longer does so. Now, it only lifts upward during the final few inches of each downstroke, and only a few mm, rather than the 5/8" or so that it used to on each stroke. Does anyone know what this means, and if so, what to do? My guess is that the seals are going, and I need a new jack (although I see no oil leaks). It doesn't look like there is anything user-serviceable inside the housing.
If so, no big deal since Pep Boys and Kragens sells them for $20 on up, but if someone knows an easy fix I'll give it a shot.

Some of my buddies have experienced similar issues with their far east import floor jacks. Some have fluid leaks and attribute that to seals. In their case, most just toss it and buy another.
I've been lusting after an AC Hydraulics but I am not inclined these days to work on the car much so I don't pursue buying one.

The Dk20 has a saddle height of 3.1"
And with the HD wheel option:

Their jackstands are really nice too.

Man the DK20 is Sweeeeet . Having a lowered car is really tough with a regular jack. I have to use my scissor jack to get my car up a bit then use my Napa hydrolic jack to get it up higher. Really a pain in the butt. I am definately going to buy one of those low profile DK20's. Thanks for the link

Thanks for the replies!
You can also just roll your wheels onto some wood boards to get the extra lift needed to just use your Napa jack in the first place, but of course you have to anticipate that before parking your car. I use similar boards to use my ramps:
Yeah I thought those Griot's Garage jacks were nice, but that DK20 is definitely more hard-core, as long as weight is not an issue.

How dopey am I? I never thought of that . Thanks for the tip. A few pieces of wood cost a heck of a lot cheaper than a new floor jack and is a lot quicker than using the scissor jack.. That is why I love CL .
