Default I just shorted my new battery-did I kill or damage it internally?

I was installing a new battery and stupidly placed the long 10mm socket wrench accross the Positive terminal and the metal clamp, it sat their sparking for about 3 seconds until I yanked it off.
It almost looks like I chewed off part of the clamp bolt.
Did this cause some internal battery damage ?
Will this cause future problems?
OR, is this seen as only a quick drain to the battery and no issues?
The car runs fine (whew!!!).

Thanks

It seems the battery survived the short. [You may have long life issues to contend with in the future, but nothing can be undone so just enjoy.] Worst case would have been split battery due to high current.

By the way I have seen folks use 12v battery and the carbon rod from the ceter of c & d size battery to actually arc weld stuff.

LOL.

This happens to me on occasion and with a very powerful Optima Red Top.

You should not have any problems.
