I have read somewhere where the spark plugs should be changed at 60K if possible.
the reasons are not what you think. (the plugs will last till 90K no problem.)

Apparently they can actually become permanently attached/fused to the aluminum heads (gs400) from heat cycling. Also while replacing the removal of the plug can actually strip the threads in the head because of the heat of the plug has actually fused it to the aluminum head.

Also something about using Anti-Seize lube on the new plugs to prevent damage on the next removal.

Anybody ran across this problem or heard of somebody actualy with this problem on a lexus v8 motor?

I would think let someone else take the heat for damaging your heads (like the stealership)
And always ask for your old parts back.

HOLY CR@P... a 95 SC400 with reasonable mileage is worth around 8,000 to 9,000bucks around here.. so you mean to tell me she spend half of what her car is worth and sold it within a few months??

This is possible, but it has been common practice to use antiseize lube on plugs that screw directly into aluminum heads (AKA our cars). If this happens either the person who did the plugs initially did not have the knowledge or expertise in changing plugs or the engine overheated at some point. I've been using the lube ever since I started working on cars, so this is not new. Also if you change plugs, remember to coat the ceramic portion of the plug with dielectric grease prior to plugging in the wires in case A LITTLE water gets into the spark plug valley.

Someone should be slapped for that $4k bill. The prior owner for actually paying that much and the dealer for taking advantage of her.

I have always been skeptical of 60k mile checkups, but I think when my car gets there (I still have 15K to go), I will probably get it done.

My buddy of mine and I talked about this (he is a huge gear head) and he has said the biggest thing about Toyotas and others in the family are the Timing Belt. At 60K, that probably should be changed. I have debated this for a while, but I will probably get it done in about a year when I hit 60K.

I don't think the lady spend over 4K on service. I think she may have a lot of stuffs done such as power steering pump, ac system, water pump+timing belt, ect..
