Tire rotation for AWD
I have a 2000 RX300 AWD and I would like to know do AWD vehicles need tire rotation? And if so, how often do the tires need to be rotated? Thanks

Just rotate them from front to rear every 5,000 miles. I know the owner's manual want you to rotate them with the spare, but it is too much of a headache to try to keep up with.

Pardon my ignorance but if you included the spare in the rotation sequence, which would be a huge hassle, you would only rotate the spare onto one side of the vehicle, not both, right??? You never switch tires from side to side, do you???

The spare tire probably has a rotation arrow on it, so you are correct. Putting a tire against its tread (i.e. against the rotation arrow) can cause some traction problems and uneven wear.

My spare has a rotation arrow on it, and I've never touched it since i bought the car, the only thing i do to it is make sure it has enough air in it once a month.......

Tire Rotation
I agree with Lexant. How can a spare be uni-directional?? Since it's a spare, by definition it would need to be capable of being mounted on either side of the car.
NYLex...pardon my ignorance again. If a tire has a "rotation arrow" on it, I know that means it is designed to rotate in one direction only. How does the average John Q. Driver know which way the tire is supposed to rotate/which side of the vehicle the tire is supposed to be mounted on??
I know that Corvettes, for example, have uni-directional tires. My understanding was that those tires cannot even be rotated front to back. They have stay in one place. Is that so?? Sorry for getting off the topic.

When I say "rotational arrow" I mean just that. there is a physical arrow printed on the sidewall of the tire that says "Rotation ----->" If the arrow points to the right when you read the word rotation, obviously the tire can only be mounted on the passenger side of the vehicle, so that the tire rotates in the direction of the arrow during forward motion. Vice Versa for a leftward pointing arrow.
Uni Directional Tires can be rotated front to back only. The corvette cannot rotate tires because they are uni-directional and staggered.
