Default Evaporator bad

Hi Guys

I have a 1993 SC300 with a evaporator that leaking........I would like to put in the new one myself(I have done heater cores before so I know I should be able to replace the evaporator. Has anyone ever change one on a SC300 before? If so can you please email me and let me know what all has to be removed to get to the evaporator PLEASE........do the whole dash need to come out of the car or can I get to it from the right side? do the center console need to come out as well?

I was quoted $300 labor to change an evaporator on a 1993 SC300. I don't think the dash has to come out or the labor charge would have been much higher.

The dealer told me the whole dash don't have to come out.......but the labor was $100 a hour for a total of eight hour......cost $800.00

I have done heater cores before so I know I can do the job......just trying to find out what all I have to remove from someone that has done a 1993 SC300....

I'm no expert, but I'll pass along what I was told:

The evaporator and the expansion valve are both near each other, and require some dash dissasembly. If you're having the evaporator replaced, they may want to do the expansion valve at the same time. It's not a big $$ part.

Default evaporator

I changed my evaporator this pass weekend on my SC300 so if anyone out there need to know just what needs to be removed to install the new evaporator just email me and I will be happy to help you out. The whole job took me four hours to do........the dealer said it was a eight hour job at the cost of $800.00.......now I have $800.00 in my pocket and the air in my SC300 is ice cold.
