play in steering column

play in steering column
on the 01 LX470, there seems to be about one inch play in the steering column when i force the steering wheel up or down. Never seen this sort of play in other cars. My question is, what would cause this play ? is it the steering adjusting motor or other internal steering column parts ? is there a TSB for this ?
