Coolant Question
Hi Guys, I did a search but im in a rush so if anybody could answer or point me in the right direction it would be great.
The coolant light came on, it doesn't look low, its pink, Don't have any of that on hand, can I just add water or do I have to put in the pink stuff? Also would low coolant cause the car to ping more when you shut her off? Ive noticed allot more pinging recently. Car operates at normal temp.. All other vital statistics seem to be ok.

Don't be suprised if it's just the sensor having a bad day- that happens with our oil lights, too.
One good indication of low coolant is the heater stops heating. It won't harm it to add some distilled water to see if topping it off solves your problem. If you have to add a lot of water, you'll lower the mixture's ability to resist freezing and in the long run it will have less anti-corrosion and water-pump lubricating abilities, so eventually you'd want to get the mixture proportional again. The usual Toyota coolant is red - if yours is pink, maybe it is time for new coolant, anyways!
If you are hearing "pinging" with the car off, that's probably the hot engine / exhaust parts immediately beginning to cool and contract- that's normal. My Honda CRX used to sound like a garbage can full of BBs rolling down off a tin roof - Ping City.

This "pinging", is that the metalic click of exhaust pipes contracting like Perry describes or is the motor "running on" or "dieseling"? The first is just some clicking or pinging coming from under the car. The second is the engine actually continuing to turn (loping) after the switch is turned off.
