Question If/when you go to the dealership for an oil change....

Do you expect a complimentary visual inspection and to be informed of problem areas (leaks, fluid levels, uneven tire wear, etc)?

Just me but I always thought that all oil changes were opportunities for servicers to quickly evaluate obvious potential issues to bring them to our attention to prevent long-term problems!

You can do that yourself much better. I personally don't trust ANY dealer. I take the opportunity to detail the undercarriage at every oil change, besides letting it drain overnight and putting fully synthetic oil. It's a lot more work on the SC430 than any other previous car (20+ bolts), but after the first time (800 miles and 4 months now), I'll only do it about once a year (3Kmiles).

I also discovered the A/C discharge hose dumps the condensation right on top of the tray, splashing and etching everywhere around. I'm going to install an extension piece that will extend below the bottom of the tray, just like the coolant extension in front.

Good day people.

i expect the dealer to check routine, easily accessible things such as levels of fluids and so forth. But i don't expect them to pull off my wheels to check brakes or anything like that.

Well the day after I was at the dealer I popped the hood and there was no coolant in the reservoir. It was bone dry, and my car doesn't have a warning light for this. Unless this leak just exploded right after I left (which I admit is possible), I can't believe they just let me drive away.

Yeah there was some left in the rad. I had been checking it periodically because I suspected a leak but at some point it went from leak to pour. I'm glad I checked it that day.

Past shops do the following: brake pad wear, tire wear and general suspension check. Under the hood: coolant, brake, tranny and belt check.

This is an easy way for them to try and get some more $$ out of me. My last trip to have the suspension checked, they gave me the whole list of 60K repairs and thensome. (Based on the service history of the car.)
