Default Parts List: Repack Bearings and Brakes

Hi,

Would somebody kindly list the parts I need for the [front] wheel bearing repacks and brake jobs, please? I do not mind OEM nor do I mind proven aftermarket rotors (ART?)

Most important you need a 54mm socket to set the preload on the bearings, besides that; one hub oil seal per side and your favorite lithium base grease.
For brakes your favorite pad and rotor combo, caliper bolts should be torqued to about 90ft lbs.
Good luck

You can get the 54mm socket from Advance Auto as a part loaner for free. I went with Advance auto rotors and stock grease seals nothing special. This takes awhile to do each wheel perhaps 2 hrs each, so plan accordingly. Also, you need to do some homework on the wheel bearing preload adjustment.

Besides the 54mm socket, you need a brass bar and hammer to remove the cone washers and dust covers, snap ring pliers to remove the snap rings, fish scale to measure bearing torque, bearing packer (nice) to squeeze out the old grease from the bearings, big flat head screw driver to stake the lock washer, and torque wrench. To remove the old inner seal, I rock it out with a big pair of channel locks.

For parts, other than the inner bearing seals and grease, you will need a pair of lock washers and pair of drive flange (paper) gaskets. If this is the first time you're doing it, be prepared to spend some time. First time it took me a weekend to do. Last time I did it, it took 3 hrs plus 1 hr cleanup.

This may be a stupid question, but how will you know when you need to repack the bearings?

Here's a site for checking if one should replacing or repacking your bearings:
