Has anyone tried K&N oil and air filter?
Hi,
Im soon looking to service my Lx470 and was wondering if any one has used/installed K&N air (33-2146) and oil (HP-1002) filter in their LX?
Would like to know if they are good to use or to stick with the original Toyota filters. I have been reading on different forums about oil from air filter being slipped in through the Air induction causing different problems, but since have no 1st hand experience I'm here asking for your input on this matter.
Any kind of help/suggestion is appreciated.
P.S. Any input on AMSOIL 5w-30 oil will be regarded as well.
Many thanks in advance

K&N Filters
The K&N air filters hold up well over long periods even with multiple cleanings and re-oiling. The oil filter is probably a lot better than OEM. There are many choices for oil filters. I use AMSOIL, but they recently stopped officially offering them for Toyota/Lexus due to sludging which clogs their super efficient filters during long mileage drains. They recommend Wix or Mann oil filters as substitutes.
The AMSOIL oil is probably your best bet. I always do an engine flush, first(AMSoil engine flush) and my 1999 LX 470 with 190,000 miles uses no oil between annual changes. I change the filter at 6 months.

Many thanks "Retired" & "Jwarnemd" for your comments ''
I have now installed the K&N Air & Oil filter along with AMSOIL 5W-30 synthetic oil. As Suggested I should have flushed it 1st, i'll remember to do it on my next service.
I am facing yet another issue with it now: At idle the car shakes and vibrates, not too much but is noticeable once at the driver seat. I have changed the Spark plugs and checked all the ignition coils by changing them over for the new ones and it still hasn't made any difference, it drives well and starts well also. Any comments or help on this would be appreciated.
Many thanks

Vibration at idle
That happened to me a long time ago. It was suggested to reset the ECU.
I pulled the fuse for several minutes and it reset, then no more rough idling.
Since it runs smooth, it's not the coils as you said.

oil, air filters rough idle
I have not gone with K&N air filters since they are harder to use, with cleaning etc. Regular filters, may limit HP a bit but I am happy with mine.
I use Mobil 1 0-30 fully synthetic green label for highest fuel efficiency
have you put any Techron fuel injector cleaner in? it may help a rough idle
