Navigation Options For 2000 LX's
I am looking for any suggestions on in-dash navigation for my LX. I have the Nak. system currently and now have experienced what appears to be a very common problem with the 6 disc changer jamming. After contemplating the repair of the OEM radio (@ $400) I decided now is the time to upgrade to an aftermarket unit with built in navigation. I reasearched several units and decided to go with the Eclipse AVN 5500.The unit appears to be great, is manfactured by Fujitsu Ten (manufacturer of the OEM Lexus radios) and will do everything that I want. One problem though..... Every shop in town is intmidated with the install challange of how the OEM unit slopes at the top, and want a small mint to install the unit. I have also found that there were no mounting kits manufactured for the LX past the 1997 model year, making the install a custom job. AUghh! I am now looking at maybe purchasing a factory OEM navigation unit (from a 2001 LX) and see if this will work, but don't know of anyone that has tried this approach. Any suggestions for getting indash navi?
Thanks
Thanks

I spent a long time looking into this also. I would think that the '01 factory nav would be very expensive since you would have to buy both the head unit and the cpu (under passenger seat).
I would have gone w/ an Eclipse AVN also. The 5435 is cheaper now, and the I think the only diff between that and the 5500 is that the 5500 does 3d building models. You will have to probably have some custom glass work done for the faceplate curve. The best price I had found was around $125.

If you have the Nak. system, did the shops you visited mention the replacement of the factory amplifier as well as the entire speaker system? One shop I visited pitched this to me; due to the way the Nak. system is set up, and that is was necessary??

Some shops will pitch that as a way to get more $ from you, or because they're lazy or incompetent. You shouldn't have to replace the amp, unless you try to retrofit an OE nav unit since that's where the cpu is.

hi.. i have a 2000 lx 470 with the stock nakamichi indash 6 disk. then i upgraded to the eclipse avn6600 with back up camera and ipod jack. mounting the navigation system wasn't that hard, and indeed, there was no kit for the lx470. so i decided to use and Lexus IS kit which can be bought from ebay for several dollars. The system overall works great. but i have one suggestion, dont do it yourself as it is a tedious work. you got to do all the wiring from speakers and amps under the passenger seats.
i hope the info i provide helps.
