Trade in LX450 value
Can anyone estimate how much I will get for trading in a fair-good '96 LX450 with 101k miles? It has premium sound, 6cd, ski rack, factory tints, gold package (I don't remember what else there is but it was pretty much fully decked out when my dad got it). KBB lists it around 9-10k. How much would a Lexus dealer take it for?
Thanks

You know you're asking a question difficult to answer without observation of the LX and it's log books. Has it had maintenance on a timely basis since new? Were receipts provided when purchased? Sometimes difficult to answer without purchasing a Certified Used from a Lexus dealer and being the second owner of a lease return... The Lexus seems to last longer with timely maintenance. This means including fresh fluids and filters, but, not only just an oil change. Fair to good is transparent. ( A ski rack means used in snow, not a plus here.)
Then there is the concern over fuel prices and larger SUV's. Their values are decreasing reacting to the market place. It comes down to again "what the market will bear" in your area.
Values are always relative to your market. A Lexus dealer knows the cost to replace worn parts and would give you the least for your trade. A dealer trade is never a money maker, just a convenience.

realistic trade in value based on Galves.com which used true market pricing based on actual auction sales . And these are cars in good mechanical and physical condition

Why not sell it?
The only advantage you get on a trade in is a lower hit in sales tax on your new purchase. What ever savings you might get, would be offset by the amount you'd pocket in a private sale vs. trade in.
Does your LX 450 have the optional front and rear differential locks? If so, you could sell it pretty darned fast.
