Soft Brakes
Hello All:
New member; I would appreciate some guidance on the brakes of our 2011 LX570. Bought it new and has 14K mi. on it now, it is exactly what we were looking for and we are very happy with the vehicle.
However there is one moderate annoyance with it: its brakes. The pedal travels about 2" before I can feel any meaningful braking or deceleration, and after those 2" the braking force becomes quite disproportionate to the additional pedal travel, may be another 0.5", it brakes quite hard. So, it has become increasingly difficult to brake consistently. Dealer service has told us "this is normal."
We had the brake fluid changed twice already, and pedal feel improves noticeably after each change and gets worse from that point on. Our 2000 model Land Cruiser's pedal feel is superb, all stock, and it is much more rewarding to drive and drive consistently.
I am wondering if others are experiencing this similarly "normal" situation and if anyone can recommend any methods to improve on the matter of pedal feel.
Thank you all in advance.

The pedal travel before brake engagement has always beem a little more than other vehicals I have driven.
It is normal as all four of my LX units have been the same. You get used to it quickly if it is the only vehicle you drive. If you drive another vehicle without this much "travel" it can be harder to adjust.
I have no complaints about the LX brakes as they will bring the 3 ton beast to a stop, even from high speeds.
Here is just one of the other threads on this exact subject if you want to read more:

Thank you very Greg for the response, I think you may be right. It is not the only vehicle I drive, actually I drive the 570 seldom, so that maybe playing into my perception. And thank you for the link, it is informative and makes me feel better

the brakes work but it's definitely on the weak / soft side considering today's standard.
compared to my other cars or cars i have driven, the lx has some very soft brakes. if you press down hard on it it does brake hard, but the initial bite is weak. i thought our gx470 brakes are very weak already but after driving the lx570 for a week (adjusted to that braking), getting into the gx470 and i was choking myself every time i braked.
the lx570 is a heavy car no doubt, but looking at other heavy suvs out there, they all have better (harder initial bite, more linear, firmer feel) brakes
