Broken off rear view mirror from windshield
Just the other day, I went to adjust the rear view mirror and it broke off from the windshield (nothing left on the windshield). And no, I do not have any monkeys that hang on it--causing this to happen. Lexus said they would have to replace the entire windshield ($1400) since the mirror couldn't be reattached. Is this for real? They also informed me that the windshield is not original (we are the 2nd owners). If the rear-view mirror can't be reattached (it has some small chips of glass on the base), can I get my entire windshield replaced anywhere or does it need to be Lexus? Any advice would be appreciated.

you can get special adhesive to affix mirrors to windshields at any autoparts store. I've reattached mirrors before...although not on my LX.
anyone can replace a windshield, it doesn't have to be Lexus. It might be best to get Toyota/Lexus glass and gaskets and have the installer use the installation method detailed in the factory service manual, but...it's not absolutely required.
Besides...your dealership probably outsources the glass work to another vendor.

Bringing that old one back... My rear view mirror fell off as well. It fell off with the metal bracket. However, the glass has not chipped off, its only glue left on it. What glue and method do you guys recommend to put it back on?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I bought some two part epoxy at Oreilly's , mixed it up, applied it to both surfaces, held it in place for about 1 minute, and that was it. That was about 6 months ago, no problems since. 2002 LX470, 85K miles
