Shock Absorber (Air) replacement (air suspension) on a LS460 2008 model
Hi,
I need to replace all 4 shock absorbers of my Lexus LS460.
The shop is asking me some 6000 euro excl vat work hours not included.
I can source the 4 air shock absorbers from alibaba.com at less than 1000 euro.
My question is the following: When a technician will replace the air shock absorbers, is there a need to change stuff in the lexus computer of the car?
The car technician does not have access to Lexus computer software to do any initialization.
Is there a need for adjusting the car's computer when replacing the 4 shock absorbers?
Each absorber is hooked up with some electrical computer unit I suppose?
Even replacing a valve on the tyre needs a new initialization of the valve.
I do not want to end up with eternal orange warnings in my dashboard caused by the replacement of the shock absorbers and not knowing how to cancel these warnings in the cars computer.
Thanks for considering an answer?
Have a great day

Personally I would get a second and maybe a third diagnostic from a reputable auto repair shop. It's unusual to have all four shocks replaced on a '08 LS.

I do not believe you need to initialize the system on a 460 but it would be safe to confirm this with a dealer. On the 430 there is no initializing. As mentioned above, air shocks don't fail all 4 at once. They tend to fail one at a time. You can also convert the suspension to coils and shocks or coilovers if you so desire. Just make sure to leave all the height sensors in place and disable power to the air compressor and you will not have any warning lights.

Absolutely get a second opinion. There should be a shop somewhere in the area with a former Toyota or Lexus mechanic. If not, head to your local Toyota dealership's service department.
