Jud , no complaints here with my Lexus extended warranty. I paid 3k for it and within 2 month they rebuilt the whole front end to a tune of $5000. Now I'm not happy with the front end, something is wrong and I'll be taking the car back to them again next week or so.

An excellent money maker for dealers. That's why they seem to spend more time and effort selling them than the actual car you're buying.

I'm not against a warranty but there is a clever way the companies game the system.
The factory warranty is the most important which usually takes care of manufacturing defects. As the car gets a little older and just out of warranty most parts will prove their reliability better then new and better then 100k miles plus old. This is the point where the time frame and millage work against you statistically and where most warranty companies place their bets and get their returns.

When my ES neared it's original warranty, I asked Lexus service technician (yes technician) about his opinion on Lexus extended warranty. His one line answer was 'this is built like tank, I wouldn't get'. So, I didn't go for it. 15 years with 242k miles, its still my daily driver. My favorite among my cars. First repair outside of regular maintenance was to replace knock sensor, I believe at around 150k miles.

Coming to GX, based on the air suspension issues and others common issues posted in this forum, I went for Lexus extended warranty and it ended up paying more than I paid for. I believe I posted what repairs I did on GX in GX forum. Happy with that warranty experience.

With LS, not sure what I would do. I still have almost 2 more years to decide. My point being, one has to make a judgment call on extended warranty. If a product has design or manufacturing flaw, most likely it will end up costing at some point in future.

For sure. When I bought my '11 LS 2 years ago, the finance guy must have asked me, with a little pressure thrown in,to take the extend warranty at least 5 times if not more. He finally backed off when he he realized I was getting a little upset. Then, if that wasn't enough, the sales mgr came over to me after the paperwork was done wanting to know if I took the warranty. I guess they all get a piece of the pie.

I've been doing research on extended warranties. If you want to buy one, the OEM extended warranty is the way to go no matter who makes the car. The aftermarket companies are where the complaints are. Lexus cars are so dependable in general, it's hard to justify for most models.
