I'm stumped, guess the cause of the fire

That sort of thing can happen to any make and model car or truck or even an airplane. There are constant 12V wires running all over in these cars. All that is needed is a stuck or bridged switch a locked motor, stuck relay and a slow buildup of heat to light something up. Ford had recalls on some older trucks for cruise control release switches that caused fires. Rule 1 don't overly trust things that are electrical.

most likely electrical - near the battery.
