I found these photos of LS460 grills on black bodies. The first seems to be original. The other three look to have been modded. I'm beginning to be partial to number 2.

The first one looks like a luxury car. Well stated, world class and regal. A symbol of excellence.
Number 2 looks like a factory economy car
Number 3 looks like something Hyundai would do.
Number 4 looks like someone's civic who used Krylon paint and who didn't get the memo that the blacked out look is so 2006.

I was partial to number two as well and that's how I did mine. I never liked the factory grill (nor did many others here at CL), so we did the grill as seen in photo number two by painting the slats with Plasti-Dip. The good thing about using Plasti-Dip is that, if you don't like it (or make a mistake), it is easily removed. Another advantage is that it is very forgiving to road debris and holds up very well. I did mine about 8 months ago and looks the same as the day I painted it.
Here is my DIY with photos:

To each his own. There are LOTS of pics here on CL from numerous members who have done the mod, so you'll have a ton of info and photos to refer to.

I whole heartedly agree with you but the problem is most people who decorate their car usually do it for the admiration of their peers and often cannot take harsh criticism and somehow blame those that don't agree. I have modified my other car and choose elements that 90% of the viewing public would like. I blended in elements of the car as a whole to make it look like a factory enhancement rather then an amusement park.

Well the good news is 100% of those that saw my grill change in person thought it looked better. Probably why it's a popular mod here at CL (including a couple of the mods here that did it). Given a choice, I'd also like to remove the Lexus emblem as one member did here, which looks amazing. Too much work though. Another member has one that he bought that did not have the emblem and it too looked awesome, but apparently it's no longer available.

I did mine like number 2. Personally I think it looks great. Much better than factory. The factory grill is a grey color that exists no where else on the car. And I feel it's too shiny. Number 2 with the $8 trim looks better than factory to me.

Grill 2 is how my car looks now and grill 3 is my old Black Sapphire Pearl LS460, I mod for me and if my peers like or don't does not affect me because everyone is entitled to their opinion. I loved the way both my LS's looked and IMO my mods were not over the top, have a clean look so in the end to each their own. Go for whatever you think looks best to you OP.
