Default Route 66 extended warranty - good or bad idea?

Anyone ever use this? I'm refinancing the 2007 LS460 I just purchased with Penfed; they told me I could get an extended bumper to bumper warranty for $1395 that would last 5 years / 100k miles; whichever comes first. Car just turned 46k miles.
I found it funny that she said "premium" cars would be $1995, and my car is considered standard. I asked what cars are considered premium, and she said "Like a BMW 3 series". I had to laugh - my executive car original sticker was over 90k. But anyway..

I'm having the worst internet connection today and can't get out to research this - I realize they won't cover regular maintenance items like tires/brakes, but I'm thinking if I just need the control arm bushings replaced it'd be well worth it.

If anyone has any experience with Route 66 warranty service I'd love to hear back - I have 60 days to "add" it through Penfed.

This page took 10 minutes to load - that's how bad my connection is today.

Bad idea...... they cover NOTHING... I had to replace 3 out of 4 of my door hinges an the denied the claim saying they were body panels wtf???
I suppose if the engine or tranny launched into the stratosphere they'd say it was cosmetic.....

I used them and they covered water pump and broken lumbar support, total of $2800 (had the enhanced electronic package because they don't cover nav and ML without it). if you have air suspension, they don't cover the airbags in the shocks

You should be able to buy a Lexus warranty. Contact your local Lexus Finance mgr.

If they don't consider your car premium, but an M3 is, I wouldn't trust them to cover my car.
I mean you can tell they have some issues already, don't bother messing with it. Not worth it.

I think when they say "PREMIUM", they are referring to it being a premium to repair. They are talking about any car that is expensive to maintain and repair and have a sketchy repair history....like my 7 series was. That car single-handedly would have broke ANY warranty company. On second thought....maybe not, since it seems these companies find any way they can to deny a claim.

If you can't go Lexus warranty, I'd opt out.

One more thing, penfed does not offer the enhanced electronics package, so NAV and radio are not covered :-(

Most consumer advocates tell you to stay away from all extended protection plans. Obviously, it is the company who is profiting. I would only get one through Lexus if you choose this route. Penfed is a great credit union. I'm also a member as well as USAA. I would take that two grand and put into an account with the best interest rate you can find. Then when a part goes out, source it yourself and pay for labor only. This will save you a lot of money in the long run vs those scam warranties.

+1

This is what I would do and is what I advise anytime these arguments crop up on these and other forums. At the end of the day, you have to do what makes you comfortable. For me, I hate betting against these companies. They are certain they'll come out ahead and 99% of the time, they do.
