Brief loss of power and a beep
Hi guys, over the past few days driving my ls460 I've had a niggling feeling that something isn't quite right. The power delivery seems a bit inconsistent and although the engine sounds fine, I can feel something a bit 'rough' through the pedal.
At first I put it down to my imagination, but a few minutes ago I was driving along at a steady 40 and for a brief second the engine power cut right down and something flashed up on the screen along with a beep.
It happened so quick I couldn't have read it even if I were staring at the screen.
Has anyone else had this?

I think your advice is very good. Another possibility to consider is that a sulfation deposit broke loose in the battery and temporarily shorted one of the cells. If the battery is aged - past 40 months - then changing it would not leave much money on the table, even if it is not causing the problem.

Ok guys, so we're leaning towards something power related you think? The battery hasn't been changed from new afaik (2007) so it is probably with a shot.
I stripped down the intake and cleaned the mafs and tb this evening in case it was that.
Btw the car has 135k on it. Going to book the 140k soon but not sure what that entails

Ok so it happened again and this time I was actually watching. On the main screen it had an orange outline and and a warning triangle but there was no text! It did a double beep at the same time.
As u was coasting g to a stop I did not notice any drop in engine power and the electrics such as the stereo did not cut out.

My initial thoughts would question if driving why the battery issues would affect the car while driving I thought the alternator took over once engine was running and not the battery. Strange ish is happening almost like there is misfires with the plugs, as always its going to be tough to replicate the problem good luck.

With the car in question it sound like a Battery alternator problem or both. The cars alternator needs to be load tested and the battery condition evaluated. When you get one system to fail it can take the other one with it and act in an odd fashion with the regulator working intermittently .
If there is not enough juice for brief periods the car can lose power and the electronics can do crazy things.

The alternator does take over however in these newer cars it is also depended on the battery as a source of reserve power in the circuit. Running a modern car without a battery after it has been started can damage it.

One of the greatest things about Toyota vehicles is that they are very easy to diagnose. Almost all Toyota use the same kind of proven electrical architecture that makes it very hard to short out sensors or even cause electrical fires. The LS 460 has been criticized as being a big Camry as if that's a bad thing.

So have you checked the battery terminal? I'm telling you that's exactly what my problem was. I happen to be near a dealership when it happened and dropped it off. They said it was just a loose terminal and they had to clear the codes that the car threw off because every single computer in the car triggered a low voltage cell.

I was beginning to think that it might be some sort of misfire issue, so it's interesting to see Lextrician mention the same thing. The car is at 135k miles, but has a full dealer SH so the spark plugs shouldn't be an issue I dont think.
Is it worth me plugging in an OBD scanner? Would it reveal any error codes if the car isn't displaying them on the main screen?
