Default HDD not working in cold weather

My car usually is park in the garage. I was out of town this weekend and parked outside in 30 degrees weather, then my ML system's HDD won't start up. No GPS, no HDD audio and no voice command? It work again this morning after it sat in the garage overnight. I think this happened before last year also.

Anyone have the same problem? Can I get the dealer to replace the HDD with my platinum extended warranty?

Same issue with my G35. HDD not functioning properly consult a dealer message. After the car warming for maybe 5 minutes all is well. Happens everyday in the winter and never in warm weather. Dealer says this is normal which is very funny but I'm not interested in having the HDD gutted and replaced. I'd lose my contacts, stored locations, and my music collection while possibly introducing more gremlins in trade for the minor annoyance. It is embarrassing though.

I have not had this problem on my LS.

Not necessarily. It may be possible to download the contents to an external hard drive (like the one you would use to backup your laptop) and then upload to the new HDD. It is something you could look into if you really wanted to replace that faulty HDD. The thing I would worry about is someday it might not ever boot for you and then you may well lose everything.

It kinda make sense the HDD is trying to protect itself when it's very cold, But it didn't look like is a common problem with the ls. So I think the HDD could be defected and when it goes, it will be too late. I am going in to the dealer tomorrow, will report what happen. Thanks.

My HDD had same issues at first. Than it was 5 minutes after the car was started once in a while. Later on it was every morning. Now HDD doesn't boot. No NAV, Contacts, recorded music. Let me know what happens. I am out of warranty so let's see.

Problem started when car had 48000 miles. HDD would record the music but will not play. Now I have 65000 miles and from the sounds of it HDD is fried.

Just came back from the dealer. They think is http://www.lambros.net/LexusTechInfo...SB-0115-08.pdf and they will replace the HDD and I think also the Nav screen? But I think the Nav screen is like $14,000? I have a extended warranty so should be no charge for me.

Dealer just call to make appointment to replace the 2007 ls460 ML HDD. Anyone replaced this HDD before, will they copy all the existing HDD contend over? They told me between replace the Navigation screen and the HDD will take only one hour? Can they copy the HDD in that time frame? i just need to make sure I don't lose the music in HDD.

Default HDD/Nav not working in cold

Is there a way to insulate (either from inside the hood or around the hard drive) - to avoid Unable to Read Data error? Would leaving an insulated blanket on top help?

I know it's not the hard drive going because it works fine any other time, and once the car warms up.

Please advise.

Thank you,

Ray
