Nav or no nav? Opinions wanted.

Personally, I think that nav is a must have, but for reasons other than its function as a nav. I derive the most benefit from components that utilize the nav screen (i.e. Vaistech ML+ and in-motion video from Prestigious). Especially if you rely on music from an ipod, the screen opens the door to a phenomenal ipod interface from Vaistech. I hear rumors that it will support apps controlled via the screen as well, so navigation may make the list of supported apps...just something to think about.

By the way ........... while I own a NAV-equipped LS460, I agree the auto almost screams "Make sure I am NAV-equipped."
Having said that ...... for those considering this issue ==> the question of a A) up-to-date and B) reliable and C) easy-to-use GPS, Amazon currently is offering the Garmin Nuvi 1350 for $ 132 - WITH LIFETIME Map updates included !!!!!!! (Pls know Amazon's prices vary all day and this price may be gone by tonight . However Newegg is offering it (same unit) for $140 Including LIFETIME MAP UPDATES !
Kinda beats by a country mile the best deal Lexus has ever offered their owners ! Oh ! And I don't haveta go see a dealer for map updates. I can accomplish it from the comfort of my home. Do I sound antagonistic ? .....LOL !
Y'all play nicely now, y'hear ? !!!!!

You might also consider an aftermarket NAV/Audio system. I'd recommend Kenwood or Alpine.
These are plug-n-play. Kenwood's NAV system is by Garmin. They also have blue tooth, DVD, ipod and all kinds of other stuff, plus a great display. PLUS you can make onscreen changes while underway. That's the thing I hate worst about the OEM systems, you can't make changed to GPS or dial phone numbers manually while rolling. You've been nannied to a standstill. You can plod your way through changes via voice, but I'm not that impressed with Lexus' voice recognition system.
The best Kenwood system can be had for about $1K. (DNX-9960) If you don't want to install it there are usually many auto audio shops around.
Go to your Best Buy, they have them on display and you can checkout the resolution.
Hum-m, just looking and don't see the Kenwood for the Lexus LS460, I guess they figure they all have them already. Alpine or Pioneer might make them. Actually the radio/nav isn't the problem, looks like they just don't have the replacement mounting panels.
They really are a nice system, I'm waiting for the Christmas sales for one for my new Tacoma.
