Smoothest Ride: 460L or LS 430 ultra luxury?

I like the way my LS460 rides but it was not as smooth as I expected when I first started driving it. The 22's kind of made the ride quality a little worse, but at 44psi what do you expect.

44 PSI??? I have 20s in the Conti DWS tires and roll on stock PSI recommendations, do 22s require that much? your car must roll around like a rock with that much PSI

I was wondering the same thing. Seems high to me. Although, I've never put low pro tires on any of my vehicles.

I hate to say it but the 2004+ UL rides better then the 460 with Air. I dont have air in my 460 but ive driven it enough to compare. The 430 also felt quieter and more solid. My Range Rover with EAS also rides better than the 460. The 460 looks alot nicer inside and out compared to the 430 though, so its your choice I sacrificed the ride for the new body style.

I was driving a 2006 430 without air (on new Michelin MXM4's) before I got my 2007 460L with air suspension (Dunlap Sport stock tires). My first complaint was that the 460L did not ride as well as the 430. So I decided something must be wrong with the air suspension on the 460L. I took it in and sure enough, one of the struts on the back was bad (caused the tires to be worn bad). They replaced the strut under the extended warranty and I replaced the tires with a new set of Michelins like I had on the 430. Part of the comparison certainly has to do with which tires are on the cars.
After repairing the air suspension and having the same new tires I would pick the ride on the 460L over the 430. However, there was not that much difference.

I had a 430 for nine years and now have a AWD LS460 with air suspension. With the suspension set to "sport" I find it firmer and when set on "comfort" a bit too bouncy. But on the middle setting I think the 460 with air is the equivalent of my old 430.

Of course the tires are important, as are the tire pressures. Although there is a recommended pressure, it seems, according to these forums that there is a wide variation of what is preferred by owners. I like to inflate them a little more than what is recommended. To me the ride is more comfortable and the car is a litle firmer on handling, but everyone seems to have their favorite pressure within 5-10 pounds.

The UZ V8 is practically the smoothest engine in the planet. Glass smooth
The UR V8 used in the LS460 is not as smooth due to certain factors. Mainly Timing chain instead of belt, direct injection, more displacement and less sturdy/sophisticated engine dampers.
I'm not saying the LS460 ain't smooth. It's silky smooth and probably the smoothest, most unruffled car in the market today. But if you rev both the LS400/LS430 and rev LS460 you'd easily notice the predecessor were smoother and they should be considering they have the advantage at being 'smooth'
