Ventilated seat question
The ventilated seats on my 2011 ls 460 don't seem to be "ventilating" except for the very front of the thigh bolster. On my 7 series BMW, the entire seat as well as the seat back gets really cold. I can't feel any air coming through the perferations in the rest of the seat or the seat back of the LS. Is this normal or am I due for a service visit? Also, is the air cooled or is it simply circulating ambient cabin temperature air?

seats have a fan in the bottom and the back. There is a position on your center controls that just sets the fans to move air and then there is cooling as you dial into the blue. There is not a lot of fan movement but it does make a difference. I dont notice it as much in the winter as I do in the summer when I wear lighter clothing. There are no filters or such to be serviced, but if you are feeling some circulation from the front of the seat then they are working. In the LS its really more of a subtle effect. The heaters on the other hand, do jump right out at you.

Ventilated Seat Scheduled to be Broken Down After Filter Cleaning Fails to FIX
Correction on the filters...I took mine into the dealership last week for the drivers side seat not cooling. Tech put a thin plastic seat cover on the seat--expecting to detect air movement--and nothing. They agreed that the seat was not cooling and took it to the back to clean/blow out both seat filters. Result, no improvement. Next step is to leave car this week with dealer whereby the tech plans to take seat apart and consult with Lexus engineering. I will report back with findings, but so far unimpressed with the cooling feature compared to the instant heat. IMO...this is the weakest link in Lexus's overall superb enginnering.

according to the service manuals there are no seat filters on the 07-11 LS vehicles, I have verified this on my 07. Before 07 the LS series had seat filters.
If they can have them show you what they are talking about, I suspect they are just blowing out the fan assembly and the area around the fan.

I agree. I also felt that my seat cooling never seemed to cool compared to my previous LS's, especially during the Texas summer months. My 07 has gotten worse since the front seat cushion TSIB. I have been to the dealer a few times, and as usual their response was "operating as per specs".

The LS460 seats are actually cooled by more than just recirculated air. They use thermoelectric-based cooling and heating similar to a solid-state cooler.
The following site used to list Lexus but the company has since been bought and no longer provides this detail.

Some posts claim that the AC needs to be on for the seats to cool to the max. It is also important to not have anything blocking the back of the seat at the bottom as that is where the heat is exhausted (and not a good place to put the ice cream on a grocery shopping trip).
