Auto Trunk open and close
The new rx350 can open and close the trunk with a button...why not the ls460?
I'm wondering if anyone tapped the switch in the rear and run the wire to the front & put a switch there so we can close it from inside. Sometimes we accidentally open the trunk and have to run out to close it.

anything is possible with a wire, quick tap splice and +/- source..should be an easy mod, but making a nice clean switch setup and running the wire would be a pain..but this universal wireless remote switch would prob do the trick by using the existing trunk closer switch's ground and positive as the hookups since its sole purpose is to "close only"..then keep the key fob for the wireless remote in the glovebox or armrest..check it out http://cgi.ebay.com/UNIVERSAL-12-VOL...item587e626c5a
only thing I am not sure of is how this would work on a switch like that which isn't meant to be always on or always off..this switch is more focused on lights and and other constant on/off 12v accessories but it may work

Requiring you to be at the back of the car when closing the trunk is one of the few "nanny" safety requirements imposed on us by Lexus that I agree with. You don't want it closing on something/someone that you can't see from inside the car.

So how do you explain the Lexus rx350 you can open/close from inside the car (driver side) with the same button? What nanny?

So Lexus is not very consistant. My point, however, is that I don't want to, nor should I be able to, close the trunk from inside the car where I can't see if anyone/anything is in the way.

Personally I think your argument is invalid, but I do respect your opinion.

doesn't the trunk motor have a pressure sensor to reverse or stop if it senses resistance? If it doesn't, i would be very surprised. I personally wouldn't go through the trouble of doing this mod, but it should be pretty easy to do if someone really wanted to

Likewise for your opinion randomwalk. You make a good point about the speed of closure and that the closing stops if resistance is encountered. However, I do remember a thread on this forum that talked about problems getting the trunk lid to operate after jamming against something hanging out. It would seem that in this case the safety stop didn't work. I could be remembering incorrectly.

It might be that you can see the entire inside of the RX from the rearview mirror but not from the rearview of the LS. I had an RX for almost 5 weeks while my car was there and the trunk open/close feature was nice. I also noticed that if it got hung on anything, it would reoped. My gym bag strap was sticking out of the back and it reopened.

NO, not at all a handy little feature! It turns out I've gone outside twice now, only to find my rear trunk lift wide open. I'm actually looking for a thread on how to disable this dumb little feature...

I too do not understand why anyone would want to close it from the inside.
