Lane keep/assist on LS460
I am considering the purchase the LS460 and wonder if a Lane keep/assist option is available. I don't see it in the brochure (Canadian, Toronto) but recall seeing it described somewhere on the net, possibly in Japan. This feature in combination with the active cruise control would be great on long trips.

There has been no info on how it works though, it might be just a warning signal to warn you that you are about to leave your lane. But the one developed for the new BMW 7series it actually keeps the car in lane when used the the cruise control.
If you are considering purchasing the LS460 with this feature, wait until its official. Hopefully we'll start hearing about this technology by the end of this year.

Thanks AlMuhairi. I plan to wait for the 2010 models are out so I will just have to wait for the specs to be released. Certainly some kind of active steering assist like the BMW 7 would be the preferred. I wonder if higher concerns about potential liability issues in North America might prevent introduction here?

See the link below for a video of Lane Keep Assist which is available in Europe.
My understanding is that it will be an option on the 2010 LS 460L as part of the Advanced Pre Crash package.

LKA has been around in some markets since 2007, but alas not in North America.
LKA does indeed steer the car using the lines on the road.
After all, if the car can park itself, LKA is child's play in comparison.
It's the same steering control mechanism, albeit using forward looking cameras for input.

Infiniti has this available on their M series. I tried it and it really works (you get a visual and audible alarm when the car crosses a lane). The only problem is you have to signal every lane change or the alarm goes off.
Many, many years ago I used to drive long miles well into the night. I would have killed for a system like this. Today, it would just be a nuisance for me.

lol...you know they sell small devices for lane assist for about $150 lol...i saw it on some website. You just attach it to the visor and it will signal you whenever you leave your lane
