Default Question about the folding side mirrors

Just took delivery of my 460L black/black with chrome wheels. Gorgeous is an understatement - I've seen numerous photos but nothing does it justice until you see it in person.

I want the side mirrors to fold when I exit the car in my garage, where I don't have to lock it. How do I do this? On page 58, the manual states that selecting the automatic position allows you to link the folding behavior to operations like locking or unlocking the doors, but doesn't explain how. I presume that locking the car from the outside will result in the side mirrors folding, but haven't tried that yet (too new).

Is my presumption correct? Does this mean that the automatic setting will fold the mirrors only if I lock the doors (which obviously is not necessary in my garage)?

I guess I could push the switch to retract the mirrors before I exit the car but I preferred the way it worked in my 2004 LS430 (traded in), which allowed the side mirrors to fold when shutting off the car anywhere, and did not tie it in with locking/unlocking the doors. Seems like the new method is a bad design decision.

Hmm, we have the LS 430, but in the LS 460 dealership demonstration I attended, pressing the SmartAccess door handle button (when locking) also caused simultaneous folding of the mirrors. We were told that this was the new design, where it is tied in to the lock. I'm pretty sure you can do it manually too though.

There may be an internal setting that the dealer can do from the computer. Supposedly it is free for the first time.

The other alternative is the use the inside button to close the mirrors.

Just curious why you want to leave the car doors open? It is as easy as touching the door handle to open and lock.

Unless you want the wife or the kids to go in the car.

When in auto mode the exterior mirrors will fold when you lock the car using your key fob. Or, when you get out of the car and walk away at least 100ft the car will set the alarm itself after a minute and if the mirros are in auto mode they'll fold.

Look at the personal configuration sheet that came with the car papers - mirros linked or not linked to the alarm system might be something your dealer could be able to configure.

.
Are you sure? I have left the car and came back the next day to see the mirrors still open and the button in auto mode.

I always forget to touch the black button on the door handle.

Yes I'm sure. At least that's what happens with my car. When in auto mode, the mirrors fold when the alarm is set, no matter if by keyfob or by just walking away from the car with the key in your pocket. If yours doesn't do that it might be some feature you have to configure at the dealer.

BTW when I use the keyfob to set the alarm the sunroof and all windows auto-close too.
