Question Deal Or No Deal ? (Extended Warranty)

Normally, I'm not a big fan of extended warranties, but I'm thinking of keeping my LS460L for a little while longer than normal. With all the technology in this car, I was considering a Lexus Platinum extended warranty. Dealer quoted $2265 for 7yr/75K/$0ded plan. Sound like a good deal ?? Personally, I would take case #16 (Kasie), but thought I would throw the question out for comments.

You can buy an extended warranty anytime before the factory warranty expires. I would wait and see how things go for a couple of years and then if you are going to keep the car you can purchase one. But that's just me and I never keep a car beyond the factory warranty anyway.

On a car like that, pick one part, and I bet w/labor it'll cost you that much. Labor is in the neighborhood of 90 dollars an hour. And that's a cheap part, you get something expensive that breaks, sorry!! We see this kind of stuff happen all the time. And they aren't making that much money on it either. Cost on an IS350 for 7yrs 100k toyota extra care is 1550 0 ded. And a 350 costs half of that of a ls460!! DEAL!

At the same time you might have trouble getting an extended warrenty a couple years from now. Because my dad tried to do that with a Ford Explorer he had and it still had time on the factory warrenty and he wanted to get the extended warrenty on the vehicle and he waited about a couple years to decide that he wanted to get it and when he contacted Ford Motor Co. they told him that he couldn't at that time get an extended warrenty because too much time had passed. I don't know if Lexus would be the same way.

That sounds like a good deal to me. I paid $2550 for an 8yr/100,000 mile for a Mercedes E-Class. I sold the car before it kicked in and got almost the entire amount refunded. If the warranty will be transferable to a new owner in the event you sell the car, it will add significantly to the value of the car. When I bought my LS430, I believe they told me the factory extended warranty was not transferable or refundable, so I didn't buy one. I will probably sell the car before it goes out of warranty.

That's probably just a Ford thing - their cars have higher repair rates than Toyota. Plus there are many outside companies that sell extended warranties. You don't have to buy one directly from the manufacturer.
