AWD on LS460
Has there been any official/semi-official indication regarding when or if the LS460 will get All Wheel Drive?
In that it wll be standard on the LS600 then Lexus is obviously aware of it's value.
I've driven the LS460 at the Taste of Lexus and love it but, absent AWD, it isn't compelling enough to replace my low mileage 2003 LS. With AWD I would trade up in a heartbeat.

One problem with AWD -- you eliminate the spare and have to use run-flats as a result. This makes it a bit more challenging to maintain the famous Lexus ride quality.
Lexus could implement AWD in the LS600h by using the electric motors to drive the rear wheels. I have no idea if this is technically feasible, but it seems like a good way to kill two birds with one spherical rock...

why would you have to use run flats and lose the spare?

LS should have AWD early next year. Considering the 600h is due
Spring of 07 (according to the brochure), the V8 AWD might just
go on sale first...

You wouldn't; I suffered temporary brain fade. I was just talking to someone about how our work car, a Toyota Sienna AWD, had the absolute worst ride I've ever experienced outside of the 1-ton pickup realm. In this case they eliminated the spare by adding the rear driveshaft and used run-flats to compensate. It's been a hard day, and I transposed cars. Shouldn't type under the influence...

Lexus has been ALL OVER the MAP with their AWD
1. First only on the RX.
2. The RX 400h was to be AWD only.
3. Then to help sales, they discontented the RX and made a FWD only RX400h available.
3.5 (had to add this) THe GS 300/350 and IS 250 have AWD, the smaller engine models.
4. I predicted at first the GS 450h would be AWD as well, like the RX but instead they chose RWD b/c engineers said (and I agree) RWD is sportier and the GS450h is about sport.
5. Then the LS 600h is going to be AWD.
So Lexus has no method to their AWD thus far and I won't predict a thing!
