Just pulled my PVC valve off, inspected it, and cleaned it up with some CRC TB spray cleaner. At 67k miles the PBC valve had little to no carbon buildup, was coated with light oil residue so 100% functional. I'll check it again in another 75k miles. Thanks for sharing the great pics and info.

@legender +2 on replacing the PCV and hose. I did mine earlier this year and it was long overdue. I also replaced the hose. Had 182k on the odometer.

I'm bringing this thread up from the dead because I have been having some acceleration issues and thought it might be quite useful. I'm planning on changing my PCV valve as I have no idea if it has ever been changed but will guess it never has. My 01 LS430 has 133,000 miles. I've already discovered the vacuum hose going to the PCV is brittle and has already cracked. I will be ordering a new PCV valve, PCV vacuum hose, and grommet. Although the grommet should have been changed when I replaced my valve cover gasket, I can't rely on it. If that is the case, the grommet can be brittle and when removing the PCV it can crack and fall into the valve cover valley wihich is a pain to remove. I'm leaving what seems to be an easy fix to my Indie just in case the grommet cracks. FYI....a leaking vacuum hose to the PCV or a defective PCV can lead to similar symptoms as a faulty MAF sensor. I'm planning on replacing both the PCV and MAF to help resolve some acceleration issues related to PO171 and PO174 trouble codes. I'll keep the forum posted after replaced.

Replaced PCV, and hose today. Indie took 10 minutes. Didn’t mess with grommet as it was not cracked and PCV came out with no issues. Vacuum hose was hard as a rock. $18 with OEM parts including grommet I didn’t use.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents. Recently had my PCV valve, hoses, and grommet replaced after my mechanic discovered that the hoses were brittle. Since everything has been replaced, my car has become significantly faster with improved throttle response although performance was good to begin with. Additionally, it also seems to have solved my issue of intermittent misfiring at idle on rainy days.

Bump from the dead. Just did my car at 85k. Looks like the original OEM and replaced it with OEM. I'm sure it wasn't necessary but it is a cheap part. Love the rubber cover that goes over it... really shows you how well Lexus engineered these cars.

If you do this, make sure you have a 7/8th wrench or a 22mm wrench. I didn't have a metric wrench that big so 7/8th worked fine.

i chekced mine at 132k, and when it shook it , it still rattled inside, indicating its still good. I see no need to replace unless it's clogged.

Default 2001-2003 vs 2004-2006 LS430 PCV valve

It appears 2001-2003 LS430 used a rubber grommet between PCV valve and valve cover, while 2004-2006 PCV valve screws into valve cover

Besides one less rubber part that tends to harden, crack and leak oil, does anyone know if other reasons for the change?

It appeared the rubber grommet would dampen PCV valve.

Beacuse it breaks off into pieces and pisses you off when it does, the later design is way better
