Purchasing Advice- 2004 LS430 Ultra Luxury
Hi all,
I am currently seeking some purchasing advice regarding a 2004 LS430 with the Ultra Luxury Package and 75k miles. It is a 2-owner vehicle with every single service record since it was purchased new. 1st owner had it serviced religiously every 5,000 miles at the Lexus dealer and even had timing belt replaced due to age not mileage. The car is painted in the rare briarwood pearl over cashmere leather. The seller mistakenly noted the color as Mystic Gold Metallic, but he has to fix it to briarwood pearl. It is in excellent physical and mechanical condition. The private seller is asking $15,900 for it and according to KBB this is a rather good purchase price however they are not always accurate. Do you think this is a fair price? I posted the link below for the ad so that you can see the vehicle. Thanks in advance guys, everyone here is always so helpful!

I think i would jump on it, from when i was searching for mine they're usually high milage average from 120k- up so to find a low mileage one is rare in itself i could be wrong but thats from the research I've done in my state of Florida

Low mileage, pristine, and well maintained examples of the LS430 are getting pretty rare. If you like the car and it is as good as you say, I suggest you ****** it before someone else gets it. Plus or minus a 1,000 bucks or so on a luxury used car doesn't make any difference if you can end up with a really nice car that you can drive for several years.

i haven't seen the car but it has solid maintenance history, 2 shocks have even been done. I talked to the owner as well and you should be able to get him down at least a thousand bucks...should be less than 15k, unless you are set on a briarwood and the owner figures that out.
keep in mind this car has been for sale for quite a while, not sure why but probably because he had it priced way too high to begin with. I don't understand some people.....the market is not dumb, high priced cars won't move.

Hi again,
The car has been listed since the fall on auto trader, hence the reason why it has over 1000 views. He recently reduced the price, as it states at the beginning of the ad. I am going to call him in a bit and see what his lowest price is. I'll update everyone shortly!

dude....don't ask him what his lowest price is....instead, go in there with your own low number offer, based on some kind of logic that he would have a hard time arguing against. For example..."an 04 with 80k miles just sold at 14k but it had all shocks done, etc." you have a lot of power in the negotiation..don't give it up

Agree with other posters on negotiating strategy if the car has been sitting for a while. Find out the wholesale price, private retail price, and dealer price for the car using the car value estimator on Edmunds.com. Then come up with a solid offer between average wholesale and average retail price and use that price offer. Meet face to face with the owner and negotiate from your offer price. Don't hesitate to walk if you feel his price is too high. You can also use a strategy where you let him know your best price offer is good for 1 hour and leave to get coffee so he can call you to accept if he agrees (gives him a little time to think about it). When you physically leave a negotiating meeting the power always transfers to the buyer's side.
