just wait her out...you are in a stronger position than you think. Main reason is that these are not rare cars....they are all over the place at reasonable prices, from people that will deal. Second reason is that her price is above market....she *could* get lucky but not likely.

If the old lady is so seriously attached to the car emotionally that she has to have $18k, there isn't anything coming of this. Her son probably wants her to unload it but she doesn't want to part with it. Good thing you aren't totally into the car as this would drive some people nuts. Keep coming down with your offers, make it fun.
