Default Low Tire Warning Message & Wheel Bearing Issue

I have custom rims on my 2004 LS430 since 2008 that have no tire pressure sensors in. For the first time this winter, the low tire warning message is on. Dealership blew me off and said no way to turn it off.
Anyone know a way to turn the message off?

Second question. I have 150,000 miles on this baby and still purrs like a kitten!. However, I have had to replace the passenger side front wheel bearing four times! Cost is about $1200 every time. Dealership cannot explain why. Anyone else have this issue, or can explain why only this wheel bearing is failing?

Appreciate any input. Thanks all!

There are no tire pressure sensors in any LS430. The system measures the tire diameter indirectly by comparing the rotation rate with that established when the system is initialized.

Low Tire
When the low tire inflation pressure is detected while
driving, the master warning light comes on, the above
message appears and a warning tone sounds.
If the above message appears and adjust the tire inflation
pressure to the specified level as soon as possible. Push the
tire pressure warning system reset switch for a few seconds
and make sure the warning message goes off. If the message
still remains on, have your vehicle checked by your Lexus
dealer as soon as possible.

Pressure Initial
This message indicates the tire pressure warning system
is initialized. After replacing the tires or wheels, adjust all
4 tires to specified tire inflation pressure and initialize the
tire pressure warning system. To initialize the system,
turn the ignition switch to “ON” and push the tire pressure
warning system reset switch for longer than 3 seconds
with the vehicle stopped. The above message appears.

Gene01 How do you get to the "push the tire pressure
warning system reset switch" once you have turned the vehicle on?

The reset/Initialize switch is located below the ignition switch near your right ankle. No. 36 in the diagram below.

If you don't have the owner's manual, you can go to the Lexus web site and request a free copy.
Also, you can download a pdf copy for your computer.

So there's nothing in the wheel itself? To my understanding there was, this is good to know if its a fact, thanks. My tire place said there were sensors.

It's a fact for our ls430s. For newer models lexus has a tpms in the tire but ours work by measuring rotation.

If your tire place charged you for sensors go get your money back

There are absolutely no air pressure sensors in the wheels of any model or year LS430. On the LS430 the tire pressure monitoring system uses a primitive ABS based tire/wheel rotation measurement system to indirectly monitor size (and therefore air pressure very indirectly) on the 4 mounted tires as they turn. There is no monitoring whatsoever on the spare.

A more modern system using in wheel sensors first shows up in 2007 LS460 and newer.

Do a search on TPMS on this forum and you will see literally dozens of previous threads with lots more detail on LS430 TPMS.

I'd find another tire place if I were you! Run away.

Do you have spacers on the custom rims? These I guess can cause extra wear on wheel bearings.

No spacers. And it is the same right front bearing 4 times. None of the others have needed replacement.

What is disturbing is my service contact at Richmond Hill Lexus INSISTED there were sensors in the wheels and that Lexus knows about this problem and there is no way to turn the message off without installing the sensors!
Guess what forum ... I was able to reset the message thanks to Gene's advice.

Lexus Canada basically blew me off on the wheel bearing issue also with a " dear John" letter stating " out of warranty". I'd really like someone at Lexus to at least investigate what is causing the breakdown of that particular bearing.

Many thanks to Gene01 who told me exactly how to address my warning light issue, explained the mechanics behind it, and posted diagrams and instructions! Awesome Gene01 ! Thanks buddy! You were more helpful than my Lexus service " expert"!

Bernster - you are very welcome. Glad I could help out - the CL members provided me with a huge amount of valuable information when I was shopping for an LS (which is as close to a dream car as I could wish for).
It's very disappointing that a supposed "expert" (at the dealership, even) didn't know that there were no pressure sensors on any LS until the '07 LS460. Shameful.
