Default 05 XM module

Hi guys,

I am looking at purchasing an 05 LS430 and I am wondering if I would be able to add an XM radio module to the existing system. It has the navigation screen with the backup camera, but does not have XM installed. Is there a module that will interface with the oem radio/navigation systems from this year? Thanks

Randy

A couple that I have used are the iSimple and Vais systems. The latter displays 16 characters, where the iSimple only 10, so many song titles and performers names will be cut off. Do a search on this forum and you will find lots of info.

After doing some investigating I have found that the car is XM ready (there is an AM/SAT button on the radio). Do I just need to get the tuner and hook it up in the trunk? By being Xm ready does that mean that all the wiring is already in the trunk ready to accept the tuner? In the Navigation manual that came with the car it says that an XM tuner and subscription is all that is needed. Thanks

If you push the AM/SAT button several times, does an XM station appear or do you see the toll-free phone number to call for service? If so, you just need to subscribe. If all you get is AM, then you need the iSimple, Vais or some other kit.

Randy2016, Lexus sold a unit that was plug and play. However, it is now discontinued. The unit was made by Pioneer and hooked up to the amp in the back. I bought one on here a few years ago and have seen them on ebay as well.

Most of the LS430's need a Gateway device which plugs into the back of the radio and a Satellite tuner that plugs into it. Both VAIS Tech and iSimple make these devices. They are plug and play once the radio is pulled out and accessible. I put in the iSimple with a Sirius tuner and it ran around $250 for everything on Amazon from SoundsGreatUSA on the Amazon site. There is an excellent thread on here from an OP on how to install everything. His idea to use a pancake type antenna under the third brake light was excellent. You can get either Sirius or XM modules and the Gateway from iSimple, at least - maybe VAIS Tech too, has an iPhone or 3.5mm jack pigtail to connect your smartphone or iPod for more listening. They are all accessed by multiple pushes of the AM/Sat button. The whole project is a not too difficult afternoon.

I just installed the vias that I got from ebay. $249. It works great but i had the simple system and did not like it. You tube has a video on how to remove the radio for installing it. I have a problem with the ant.i installed in the inside on the dash near the windshield. Reception is fair.

My '05 has the pioneer unit that was there when I bought the car in 2009. As far as antenna placement, for best reception it should be outside of the car mounted to something metal 3-6 inches from an edge. This provides the appropriate antenna ground plane. If you mount inside there is a chance of poor reception blocked by trees, overhangs and buildings, depending on where you live. Farther North the source is closer to the horizon, susceptable to additional blockage. In major cities the signal is also broadcast from ground stations which makes antenna placement not as important.
