Great for you I mean it! Its all about cars, roads, driving style, weather not logic as much though friction for you may be different for me. I drive 80 percent hwy miles and just read the display for MPG's. My last LS Premium got worse mileage with syn versus my current Sport with dino if ya get me drift. I wish I noticed a half gal difference but alas no.

I use syn oil's in most of my vehicles but with todays improved conventional oils, I really do not believe there is much of a difference at all between performance of the oils. Most conventional oils will go 7500 miles between OCI's with zero engine protection loss. If a synthetic makes you feel better, then use it... Some syn oils may clean better then conventional oils but I doubt most of us will ever see any difference. Mobil 1 has been a good syn oil but I have used EP in three different cars and did not like it. It always seemed like I was adding oil every 1K miles... I changed back to QS syn and also PP and did not have to add oil. This was not in my Lexus but three other vehicles.

i was reluctant to post because of everyones opinion and freedom to express their views on the board so i will respect that. i can understand the back and forth between mobil 1 and penzoil as a never ending 100 year battle or royal purple for that matter. the reality is conventional oil had deficiencys with longevity, cold start ability to protect, high heat temps to protect and a modest decrease in fuel mileage. all but the last are indisputable. the last point i will make and i am done responding to the oil thread is our motors in our cars are 12k new, 4000 used and one of the most enjoyable motors ever produced with low end torque, drivability and performance when needed. protect your investment and use synthetic motor oil, research the big brands and choose one your comfortable with, and lastly even the syn blends avoid bring your own oil of your choice hopefully the exhaustive talk on mb1 ep made sense for 27$ and bring your own oil to the dealer they will charge you 35$ to 50$ with a filter to change and your good for 7500 miles. bring your own synthetic filter and your good for 12000 to 15000 worth of driving make it simple everyone its not opinion its 20 years of history, do you see race cars using regular oil, no because they break down, can't take the cold and terrible with high heat issues period. safe driving to all

Most race teams use a special formula rated syn and convention oil blend and also change it after every race. They may advertise Mobil 1, Pennzoil, etc but it may not be in the sump. LOL...

I use the Fram Ultra Synthetic filter and Castrol Edge Synthetic 5W-30. They periodically go on sale and I'll grab them when I see it. No complaints. Oil seems to still be mostly transparent when I change it at 5000-7000 kilometers.

I decided to try non-OEM filters, and picked up a few of the filters recommended here. Just changed oil on the '01. The Bosch D3330 is significantly smaller in size (length) than the OEM oil filter. I can only conclude that it has less overall filter area than OEM, and therefore could become "full" sooner - then the internal filter bypass would then initiate precluding / reducing filtering of oil. I won't be using the D3330 ever again. The Motocraft FL400s is only slightly longer (less than 1") than OEM.
For several years on several LS's, I have meticulously changed oil every 5K miles together with OEM filters. My '01 at 260K+ miles (no oil added between oil changes, no sludge) is testament to the benefit of scheduled oil & filter changes, as well as the quality of the OEM filter (on dino oil in a cold weather climate).

Any reason why you did not get the D3422 oversize? Size does not necessarily equate to the filters ability. I also ordered the Fram XG3600 and 5 quarts of mobile 1 extended performance off Amazon. Came out to be like $46 shipped. Hard to complain about that price.
