Changing Transmission Fluid Facelift only guide
Did this and it's very straight forward. Buy around 10-12 litres of Toyota WS transmission fluid. Nothing else, no aftermarket that meets the spec, nothing. Even if it meets Type6 and WS spec, don't do it, just use the dealer fluid.
1. Get the car in the air.
2. Find the transmission pan, losen the fill plug, losen the overflow plug ( hex ) then undo the drain bolt and drain out the fluid, retighten the bolt.
3. Measure what came out, pump quantity back into the tranny. It's around 2.5 litres.
4. Go to the front and remove the plastic undertray.
5. At the front next to the radiator you will find the tranny cooler line, undo this and point the rubber hose line into a measuring container.
6. Start the car then go to the front and watch the container, once 2.5 L has been pumped out switch the engine off and go pump the same quantity fresh fluid back into the tranny.
7. Repeat stage 6 2-3 times and you will notice the fluid coming out getting redder and redder. You can do this as many times as you want.
8. On the last 2.5L fill you do, add an extra 0.5L into your tranny and fit the cooler hose back onto the radiator etc.
9. Now run you engine for around 12 minutes to get the fluid upto temperature. At the 10 minutes mark put the car into revese, drive, neutral, 1-2-3-4 etc etc, do this 4-5 times to get the fluid around the tranny.
10. Undo the overflow plug and let whatever comes out to drain into a clean drain pan. Once it gets down to a trickle retighten that overflow plug.
11. Take about 200ML and pump it into your tranny. It's good to overfill the tranny by 200ml. Nothing will happen and it's good practice.
12. Tighten everything up and all done.
You can if you wish faff around get it into AT temp mode etc but 12 minutes it's perfectly fine. Please don't let people scare you into the temperature must be at a very very specific temperature or you';re going to kill your transmission. No need, just let it idle for around 12-13 minutes and it will be ok.
From then on, at every service merely drain whats in the pan and refill. Don't bother with the transmission lines etc, unless you want to.
