Naviagation Disk upgrade question
Hello all. New owner of an 2003 430 and was wondering the quality difference between the original Navigation disk and a newer upgrade for 2011. Are just the maps updated or is anything else improved? With navigation apps available on most cell phones now, I am debating making the $200 purchase to an upgraded Navigation disk. Thanks

I based my decision on when to upgrade on the fact that an outer loop was being constructed. Where I lived was the last 20 miles to link the complete loop. Consequently, the map showed the car driving through several miles of neighborhoods where the road was not even shown. I waited until it was completed and included in the new disc before I upgraded. That happened last year.
Lexus issues a new version in the fall of each year. You can go to the My Lexus site and find information about what has been changed for each state for each issue. You can then see directly if the changes made to the roads in your area (or areas in other states that you frequent) are worthwhile to upgrade.
It also upgrades points of interests as business change. I wasn't so much interested in that.
With a little research you should be able to see if you need/want to upgrade.

The update gives you current streets and points of interest in the same format.
I think you are asking whether it changes the look and appearance of the display. It does not, the information is current but the presentation is still a generation or two behind the current Lexus nav system or aftermarket systems like Garmin or TomTom. That said, the system works well for me. It gets me places, don't have to worry about theft and is kinder gentler than the Garmin. I prefer it to the aftermarket Garmin (received as a gift and used in my wife's car). Just one persons opinion.

That would be nice. I checked out the website mentioned above and there are substantial upgrades in my area on the newest disk. I think a may hold out a couple more months to get the 2011 and hopefully the "Agree" button will disappear. I'm being optimistic.
