I've changed mine. Recline the seat and you can then get under the front seat. Not that difficult.

got it thanks - at 20k miles and 2006 model year I just pulled the driver's seat filter and its clean and still new looking. My guess is that it will still look that way at 50k miles

No. You have to get your head down and look up under it when its pushed forward from being reclined.

We just bought 2004 LS430. When car is started and runs a couple of mins, it smells bad. Has almost 90K miles on it. I love the car, but it stinks! If it needs cabin filters, can I wash them out somehow, or do I need to purchase? And, had to replace battery. Was told there are many electrical things attached to this beautiful car, the battery was not giving enough of a charge. Will I have to do this again soon?

WOW, I see why you dont want to change the seat filters. Not a huge difference between the new seat filter and the old one. They probably can go very long periods with out replacing seat air filters. I guess it depends on how often there used. The cabin filer was dirty as they all tend to get tht way, no surprise at all that the cabin filter looked like that due to how much we all use it. Good point on the dealer to.

I know a few have speculated that no just with Lexus but all dealers are skimmping on service work etc., They only check certain things probably to cut cost. Was told by a friend who owns a Lexus he didnt have all work done he paid for so he went to an independent that told him of the neglect the Lexus service department have given to his GS! Depends on the integrity of the service department and dealer I guess as people will always try to give you the banana in the tailpipe!!! L.G.N.M

Best you buy a new filter buddy. Call your local Lexus dealer and also ask if the have a AC freshners they can spray into your system. I got one nd it worked for a year and hasnt been as bad as it was previously. That said, keeping the filter clear of dirt and things we cant see with the eye is a HUGE help with the smell. Look into the dealer possibly having a freshner they can spray for free as well to help the smell. My dealer charged nothing to spray the freshner in my car(Ac system)!!! L.G.N.M

Like UserMel said, you really need to REPLACE the filter. It's only like $14-$18 and takes about 1 minute.

Hi guyz i have a 2005 ultra ls430 ...and my ac is working fine but the rear ac on the roof i guess they smell bad and doesnt really cool ....can anyone tell me where exactly is the front two seat filters and the rear in the ultra can be seen when the trunk is open but how do i replace them or see it ??

the easiest one is the cabin filter where we can even connect our air data controller

I just realized when reading this that I wrote in "front" seat when I actually meant the "rear" seat. The question I was responding to was how does one get to the filters in the rear seats. A better and fuller explanation is to just slide the front seat forward and then recline the rear seat. As the rear seat moves forward the front lower edge will move out away from the seat and you can actually put your head on the floor and look up under the seat.

My apology and I am embarrassed for such an obvious bad answer.

In post #21, jayclapp mentioned the tiny return air filters, and I assume these are the same as the "rear garnish" or "rear sill" filters. I think they are on the UL cars only.
Another thread said that these were a PITA to change, and the owner's manual says to take your car to the dealer.
Is it really that hard? Any tips/pictures on the procedure?
