Default Lexus LS400 Gear Selector plate or cover or whatever it is called.

Hi CL,

I have a question. My Lexus did not come with the gear selector cover or plate or whatever it is called and I have trouble figuring out what exact part number I need for this. You can see into the gear section as you can see in this pic:

I have here this diagram with part numbers and I am thinking that part number 35954 is what I need. Can you tell me if this is correct? Hopefully it will no be too difficult to do this. Strange that it is missing in the first place... This is my first Lexus so I have no idea about this aspect.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Your looking at part # 35970. What you most likely need is part#35954. You will probably have to find that in a junkyard.

Thanks for the your reply. Can you elaborate please? Can I not purchase this part separately? I thought I could get this part from Lexus.

You still might be able to get the part so go ahead and try but I would try to find the whole thing in the junkyard and scavenge the parts you need.

I can get it new from Lexus but you're right. It might be expensive. Is it a complex job to refit it? I don't understand why it wouldn't be in my car in the first place...

The previous owner probably lost it when doing some work. It's not a difficult job but you would have to remove the wood trim there. It pops off but you have to be careful not to break the tabs that hold it down. Then you have to disconnect the connectors in back of the ashtray. This will give you access to the shifter. Oh and you need to unscrew the top of the gear selector off.

Thank you. I thought exactly that the owner lost it. I will try to find further information on this to make sure I don't stuff anything up and know what I doing exactly. Not exactly sure what you mean about the tabs that hold it down. If I could get a bit of a visual to see, it would definitely help. Wouldn't want to break anything.

to the OP, looks like you need part number 35975. it's a single long piece of plastic that moves with the shifter. 35954 is too small to be the part.

I don't believe that part is replaceable without replacing the whole housing (indicated as 35953) but I may be mistaken.

This is why I suggested finding one in the junkyard. That part is probably sold as a unit but I could be wrong.
