Sticky feeling leather 1990
Whats the reason the steering wheel would feel sticky and the shifter handle does too. I just tried to wash it and didn't help at all. Its cold and moist today. Anyone here deal with this before?

The times I've felt tacky leather is the application of some substance used improperly, usually some cleaner. Whom ever "cleaned" that has caused the leather to absorb that chemical and it has not evaporated. Many of the products I use when working with leather have some form of alcohol that will gas out as time passes. Oils and similar agents will not.
My wild guess is that somebody has used mineral oil or something like baby oil to "condition" the leather. Is it discolored and or splotchy? What does it smell like?

I tried some Lexus leather cleaner and it didn't help at the time. It seems a bit better now after drying out some.
I've even seen some of the vinyl steer wheels with sticky on them also, must be from armor all or what ever.
