Default What exactly are Lowering Springs?

Hey guys, I'm just curious as to what they are, I know about coil-overs but they are very expensive.. Just came across "Lowering Springs" and a huge deficit in pricing.. I'm just curious about them..

Not planning on tracking or racing my car any time soon so would they be ok for just a normal cruise around the city/traveling?

Lowering springs are just as they imply, the springs are shorter in length and that results in a slightly lower ride height. Buying an adjustable coilover like Megan will cost about $850. Springs are usually $250-$300, then shocks all around $300-$450. $200 install and $75 alignment. Not much effective savings by buying just springs.

In past times there were no economical units. Adjustable coils came from Japan at $2K+. The least expensive were Tein CS at $1,800. Eibach springs were $300 Bilstein shocks were $110 each averaged for 4. $200 install and $75 alignment. So there was a obvious wallet difference.

The adjustable units allow different dampening settings which can translate into an improved ride or stiffer feeling one. Springs don't allow any adjustment in height or dampening. Best suggestion, pay for a suspension like Megan.

Thanks man! Appreciate it, the internet wasn't helping much.. I'm gonna look into both of them because I know people who own shops and my uncle has been a mechanic for about 40+ years so he would be a great assist. But one question, if I were to choose springs, would they be reliable or are they just a cheap way out?

Springs are fine. The Eibachs and Bilstein shocks in ours has gone 120K. The humid salty conditions in Florida may not give as much longevity as far as steel parts go. As far as a short cut way for a lowered suspension, springs are very limited. These days saving up that $200 more is worth it. You'll see enough FS in the classified for 430 and 460 owners who are buying adjustable coils after installing lowering springs.

If you want a lowered stance, do it right and spend the $ towards the Megans, D2, etc.

springs work great but stick to name brand parts like eibach, tein, and h&r. there are many 'copies' out there where quality and performance are marginal.

springs work best with performance shocks, again name brand like bilstein, koni, etc since the springs generally have a higher rate (stiffer) to be able to compensate for the lower height. stock shocks (and stock replacements) will deteriorate quicker with the extra rate. of course it also depends on road conditions, driving habit, wheel/tire, and alignment.

how low are you looking to go?

A couple inches at most. Just to where the fender barely touches the tire. What kind of shocks and springs should I get that are good at a budget?

WHAT are the best struts to go with eibach pro kit lowering springs that will give me good ride comfort yet still have plenty of performance. Im using my 03 gs430 as an everyday driver i dont want to be scraping and i only really want one solid flush height . What is the best option.

I have Sensen struts with tenabe DF210s, and im just to where I rub on full lock, but the fronts are tucked up in the car, and the rear quarters are just under the thread line on the back tires. Rides amazing, but I scrape on speed bumps and **** so that takes some getting used to.
