Default Winter Tires/Wheels

Hey everyone, its that time of the year again. I have a chance to pick up some used Blizzaks for cheap that are in good condition. They are 205/55/16 size. Would running 205/55 be acceptable for my 97 LS4? If I am not mistaken the oem specs are 225/60/16..

The only car I have ever ran narrower tire than oem spec was on my Audi A4, and it worked out great great, but then again it was awd.

Based on your opinions and experience, are there any reliable, QUIET all season tires I could buy that wont suck really bad in the winter?

Thanks

The smallest you can go is a 215/65/16.

You want some extra sidewall for winter bumps and ice etc. 205/55 would be pretty low profile, but I mean they'd work, just correct for speedo difference.
215/65/16 would be solid though.

There is far more issue than just speedo difference. Tire fundamental #1 of a tire is to carry the load of the vehicle. The load rating is not any where close to what is required with a 205/55.

The gross axle weight rating of a 97 LS400 is f) 2910 pounds r) 2645 pounds

The load rating of a 205/55/16 at full 44 psi is 1,356 pounds. Multiply that number by 2, and the greatest weight rating with the 205 tire for the front or rear axle is 2,712 pounds. This is 198 pounds under load for the front of the vehicle according to the information Lexus has provided us. If you can find an installer who will install it, you are putting yourself and the drivers around you at risk.

It's a bad idea.

Our winter downsizing information keeps load and factory tire outer diameter within proper spec.

I've found found a set from tire rack that I will buy, AS tires. I scrapped the winter tires idea.

Thanks for all the help guys!
