Big Brakes
I was hoping someone could tell me im not insane...
In 93 they switched to bigger brakes... right?
I have a 90 LS400, and im really wishin it had some larger brakes
but im not really up to the challange of raising thirteen hundred dollars to buy a kit... could anyone tell me how hard to find and how hard to put on, a set of rotors, calipers, and everything else associated with that system from a 93 LS400 onto a 90 LS400?

Yes, to my recollection, they upgraded the brakes in the 1993/1994 LS400's (unless I'm mistaken).
These things are the core components that you need to see if they are the same or different between the 1990 LS400 and the 1993 LS400:
1. Master Brake Cylinder
2. Brakes Lines
3. Rotors
4. Calipers (I think they switched to a 2-piston caliper in '93/'94)
5. If you're using stock 15" wheels, make sure the updated brakes clear.
That might require research, but just pin-point the components you already have or you need to swap. It should be a relatively easy swap.

I have had a 96 and now a 99 LS400 and both cars had massive brakes. I don't know what sizes were on the 90-94s but unless they are BIG... why not consider a 95+ swap? I just measured my rotors this weekend.
Front: 12.7" with 4 piston aluminum calipers... just like Supra Turbo brakes.
Rear: 12"

jbrady, 95+ have wider calipers. they won't fit under 1st gen wheels. Hell, they won't fit under my 19's since they are not high disc. Imagine how pissed off I am. I allready bought a set of TRD brakeds to find out they won't fit.

Yes, I realize the 95+ brakes (essentially Supra Turbo parts... or vise versa ) have wide calipers due to their 4 piston design. However, a set of stock 95+ LS400 wheels should be cheap and solve the problem for stockers anyway. As far as aftermarket wheels... that is a subject for a wheel expert. Personally, I like a simple wheel that is easy to clean. My 16s are a bit smaller than I would prefer... 18s would be the biggest I would consider. 17s are probably the best compromise for my desire to have a smooth ride with good response. I would really like to find a very light very strong 17x8 wheel that meets the above.
